I think as a few people pointed out below shoring up an it isn't necessarily stupid but need to be careful not to hand momentum to opposition and to make sure still have some threat.

5 defenders 3 defensive midfielders a winger who often plays i defence and a tired Jerome is a clear message that you've given up on going forward and hope to hang on.

Sure enough every time we cleared the ball jerome was on his own couldn't keep it and Newcastle were on the attack again.

Fwiw I would have brought on Naismith and Thompson so that we could clear long and hope to keep it by giving Jerome support. Would've forced them to keep some men back too.

Would've brought on a defensive mid rather than a defender too so as not to confuse the organisation of the defence.

Anyway I am available if the fa are looking
