In fact it appears to be a done deal.... I DO NOT know if this is a wind-up...

GLASGOW, May 31 (Reuters) - New Celtic Manager Gordon Strachan has moved quickly in the transfer market by completing the signing of Darren Huckerby from Norwich, on just his first day in charge.

The deal, thought to be worth around ?1.5m to the Canaries, was hurridly completed on Tuesday afternoon and the 29-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Glasgow club.

Huckerby is expected to be unveiled on Wednesday at Celtic Park, where a press conference has been called for 1300 GMT.

Strachan had previously managed the pacy forward at Coventry, where he scored 28 goals, and was delighted to make him his first signing as Celtic boss.

"Ever since I had discussions with Celtic over the managerial vacancy, I pinpointed Darren as a potential target as he has proved he can score goals in the Premiership" said the Ex-Southampton manager.

"With Celtic's permission, I had talks with Norwich Chairman Roger Munby last week and we managed to agree on a fee that I feel represents great value for a player of Darren's quality

"He can play both up front and out wide and I am confident he will prove to be a great asset to the football club"

TRANSFER TARGETS

With the future of Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy in doubt, Strachan refused to rule out a move for the fiery striker who proved to be a succes while on loan at Parkhead this season.

"We're still looking at a number of targets and I'll be speaking to Craig and his agent in the coming week

"There are funds available to me and I'll be trying hard to get the value for every penny that I spend".
