Is there a limit to the maximum loans you're allowed in a season?

I remember in the old days, players were only allowed to go out on loan 3 times in a season (Ged Brannan being one example as he wouldn't have another loan period cos it would limit his options).

There must also be some limit to the maximum amount of loan players a club can have at any one time or in total over the season?
