my main memory of that afternoon was
being given some money a half time and going to the local shop to get sweets ( the staple diet of a eight year old at the time ) and being struck by the fact , that their was nobody about , it was completely deserted until i got to the shop and then just one guy behind the counter , that impression has stayed with me all these years
My mother went shopping that afternoon , she stills doesnt get football after all these years
