Oh, and Scififaces should read Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie

I bang on about stuff being brilliant, but this genuinely is. For a debut novel it's both incredibly true to the genre but also absolutely bursting the boundaries of the genre. Reads like a proper old fashioned space opera, but weaves into that an exploration of personal identity, gender, free-will, self-determination, duty, morality all sorts of high fallutin' stuff. Particularly identity - personal identity. But deals with gender fantastically as well.

The only book to ever win all of the major sci-fi awards (Hugo, Nebula, Arthur C Clarke, Locus and BSFA)
