...he colours his article with a large dollop of bitterness about the declining power of local press and the media in general, that boards such as these are free, to a large degree, to post anything as FACT and that in itself breeds more FACTS...that is, as far as I'm concerned anyway, a fair point...

Who he is aligned to is pretty much irrelevant to the above argument because it is true and will remain true until tougher legislation comes in to police internet bulletin boards such as this one......
