As you say he's learned a lot of hard lessons the hard way - taking the best squad in the Championship up is one thing, you can't manage the same way when those same players (more or less) comprise one of the worst teams in the Premiership.
I've never met him so can only judge from what I've seen and heard, in terms of what he's said and others say about him. But from that I get the strong impression that he will take time to reflect and take those harsh lessons on board, then pick himself up and go again.
Sean Dyche is an obvious example but Alex Fergusson took some time to be effective at ManU.
I'd stick with him come what may, and then at Christmas if we're not top six have the conversation: changing much later than that would be too late, if that's what we needed to do at that point. But I strongly suspect we won't.
It's not even the most important question for the next couple of months - that's the transfers.
