Very simplistic but

The reality is there is already a 7 day service in the NHS.
However there is no ELECTIVE work at the weekend.

People are often discharged over the weekend and this is important as it allows incoming elective patients to have beds on a Monday morning! If not we cancel elective lists on Mondays.

It's all spin.

You cannot stretch a 5 day elective device to a 7 day service without MAJOR investment.

In addition, it's not the juniors that generally deliver the elective services so the whole spin is essentially bulls**t and NOTHING to do with the contracts which were initially discussed 5 years ago before all this 7 day stuff.

Say I'm contracted to work 48 hrs a week, If I work 12 hours on a Saturday.......I can't work 12 hrs on say a Tuesday AS WELL.

The public are being tricked
