Hang on, I could beat that...
...former landlord (who shared the house with myself and another mate).
The day I am due to start my first job after a year of unemployment (1991/2) and I happen to wake up suddenly for some reason and realise my alarm clock isn't on. Try the light. No power. Get up and try to sort it out - fuse has blown on the shower water heater. Not only do I have to stay awake from 4am to make sure I get into work on time, but I and other flatmate have to have a cold wash.
Bad enough I thought. Until he refused for almost a MONTH to get it fixed because he needed the money to get his piano tuned. In the end I had to pay for it with my first wage packet.
