Alewite and a protector of a secular state albeit by some means we would not sponsor in Western Europe. However, some of the factions he had to deal with impossible to deal with via diplomacy. Extremist or fundamentalist Sunnis see alewites as heretics at best, and do not want a secular state. They want to send the alewites back to the hills they were exiled in for centuries before Assad's father (far bigger c**t) gained power. Far more complex than that of course. Oh. And the west is still funding and supporting al Qaeda operatives there. Now they call them the free army.
