We need someone creative in midfield. Youssef gets all over the place, puts in a lot of tackles and breaks up the play, with the added advantages that he can a) pass and b) score the odd 40-yard screamer.

I'll grudgingly concede that there's a place for a talentless grafter like Hughes in the squad but not as a regular first-teamer and definitely not as captain. And not for ?500K. We mention Holt but Holt used to get tackle after tackle in - Hughes doesn't.

We need a playmaker, which is where Worthy went spectacularly wrong in the summer.
