My offer was 2Cs and I got in to do German with 2 Ds.

but there were other schools already with a high reputation, including Development Studies and English and American (Malcolm Bradbury). And the University was only 10 years old at the time, still building up.

Apparently Max Sebald was already there, though I don't remember him.
