Also if you're not a Permanent Resident/Citizen, you have to have a minimum specified level of private healthcare in order to gain and keep your visa. This includes if you come from the UK where there is a reciprocal healthcare agreement due to the Commonwealth.

One thing I will say though that the system is very good in terms of the actual healthcare. Although the way it works is a f**king nightmare to understand. Certain types of procedures or appointments have a "gap" between the state healthcare (Medicare) and you private healthcare. This is liable for you to pay out of pocket. Also doctors can charge their own fees for certain things. This is on top of the state/private healthcare fees.

Before you get anything done it's advisable to get a quote for what's covered by who and how much your out of pocket fees are going to be if there are any. Like I said it's a real minefield to navigate and a f**king nightmare to deal with. I hope the UK doesn't ever have to implement this kind of system.
