5 or 3 at the back would be a bit pointless against many sides
On Saturday we played more with 5 at the back which was needed and worked considering the attacking options Manchester City and they started with two strikers. It was notable that none of our CB's looked out of place throughout the game, I would say that was down to them not being isolated in one-on-one situations.
Most sides in the Premier League play with just one central striker meaning one of the CB's would be redundant a lot of the time. In world football Bielsa, Guardiola and Sampaoli's sides in recent years have made it work with a very high line (and with wingers rather than wing backs), so much so in the case of Sampaoli and Guardiola - they haven't even played with a recognised CB. I would argue and add that all three managers can afford to do it considering the wealth of clinical attacking talent usually available to them, something we don't have.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see what AN comes up with next, as a fan of tactics I really enjoy watching our sides under him as you can see the hard work that has gone into most of our better performances.
