also, if hosting, deploy some moderately expensive wine for the first glass or two and then the cheapest fodder you can lay your hands on thereafter.
The onset of intoxication should confuse the taste buds sufficiently for all but the fussiest to notice/care, and you can always blame it on 'that cheapskate who brought the boxed shiraz' anyway.
