I've just started reading

Dominic Sandbrook's history of 1974-1979 (which is v interesting and surprisingly fun though it doesn't sound like it) ... and was this morning reading about the collapse of british manufacturing and industry taking place from the early 70's .... There is a sense in which it's inevitable, one thing replaced by another, and so quickly that sometimes the replacement is not sufficient soon enough - the problem is how to react to it
