Without a deal for a creative midfielder or striker, Everton resisted an approach from Norwich City for Steven Naismith despite standing to make a substantial profit on the Scotland international. Naismith has not started a Premier League game this season but Mart?nez did not want to lose the 28-year-old. Sunderland were also interested in Naismith, as well as his team-mate Aidan McGeady but were unable to agree terms.
