Has to be more to it than the manager's age/inexperience (although maybe that's part of it). The location of the club, that we're newly promoted, ambition compared to others, having a low wages glass ceiling compared to most, etc.
We signed mostly lower league players under Lambert in 2011/12 iirc. Was only when we established ourselves after the first season that we attracted established prem players, such as Bassong and Turner.
