Further to Brandonio's excellent advice:

I went to the places he suggested in Phnom Penh. It's generally very cheap and everyone is very friendly despite having very little.

Would highly recommend going to one of the training restaurants. I went to Romdeng and had the red ant curry. It was delicious. I chickened out of having the deep fried tarantula.

Also highly recommend Dine-In-The-Dark. It does what it says on the tin. Excellent place.
