If you go for hybrid I'd have tendency to go more
off-road rather than road if that makes any sense. I like Specialized (I've got four and have always found them reliable and well designed) and therefore I'd recommend the Crosstrail. I recommend more off-road because hybrids vary quite a bit on their design. Some are less robust and will be faster on road but to ride to work, especially winter time, I prefer being on something quite robust (hopping up kerbs etc when you get carved up by a car). Also, the more robust run better on cycle paths that are not necessarily surfaced (Marriots Way). I use Streetlife on West End Street (just off Nelson Street) 01603 626660.
