Mulumbu was genuinely widely rated as one of the best midfielders
outside of the top 4 around 2011-2013. If Neil can get him playing to even half of the ability he showed during that time, then he will at least be a useful squad addition. I'm absolutely chuffed we're signing him. On a free as well! The thought of Mulumbu and Dorran's already having chemistry is exciting too. Bear in mind they were regulars together when WBA finished 10th and 8th.
The lad Yedlin on loan from Spurs could be okay for RB competition. He's lighting quick and dangerous going forward, so even if he's raw defensively he has world class recovery pace and a top young manager (with a history of success working with young players) to develop his game. Van Dijk would be a good long term signing for cb, but we face a lot of competition for him.
We definitely need a CF.
As much as I love Jerome and hope he has developed enough under Neil to make the step up, his past prem record is dodgy, barring the 09/10 season with Birmingham. Fingers crossed he's another late developer, much like Holt.
Grabban is an unknown quantity at this level, but I do worry that he's not efficient enough in front of goal to take limited chances. A lot of his goals from last season were either gifted by s**t defending, scruffed in flukey shots, keeper mistakes or penalties. That's not to dismiss his all round play, but we need at least one player to deliver close to 10 goals from open play, which I'm doubtful he will manage unless his finishing improves drastically.
Hooper played well for about two months last time we were at this level, although he was stifled by Hughton. However, I'm not sure he fits into Neil's plans, beyond the subs' bench.
The less said about rvw, the better!
