Depends what level of service you want.
Well this is my industry so I think I can help. The best bet is to go for OEM approved products. These will have fitting intructions approved by the manfuacturer which wont invalidate your warranty, especailly if the device has ignition starter cuts.
The Tracker product has been around a while and you can get it quite cheaply but that's because it uses "Low jack" RFID rather than the latest products which use GPS (i.e. just like your phone). With Tracker you are relying on the Police having a Low Jack equipped vehicle being on the road that can triangulate to find the car. You may see this described as Thatcham Category 7 (CAT7).
This is inferior to the GPS units that send a real Latitude /Longitude to the operator who pass it straight to the police. Referred to at CAT6. CAT6 is the default OEM product used when buying with the vehcile from a dealership e.g. Jaguar, Land Rover, Audi, BMW etc.
With recent key cloning theft you have a further issue in that the car believes it is being driven legally i.e. with the keys. So to avoid that you need to have a system that uses a driver id box ( with extra fob) commonly called CAT5. This ensures that even if the key is cloned the wont have your fob so the vehcile will alarm when driven and so you will hopefully get a recovery. You can also immobilise the vechicle on demand with the authority of the police.
There is a new flavour of product just launched specifically to combat the key clone theft by Trafficmaster called Trackstar Advance priced in between CAT6 and CAT5 which combines the driver id with an immobiliser so "no fob no ignition". i.e. the car doesn't leave the driveway.
If you send a PM to colinwoolmer40 @ gmail.com I can give you more detailed info. I can also organise a "friends and family"discount for certain products once you have made a descision depending on brand.
