Wife and i did a month in Portugal for euro 2004
We had follow England tickets so not what you are doing. We were based out of Lisbon, where England played most of their games and left when England played elsewhere. It was great. Met loads of people when other teams came and played. Went before the tournament started, left after it finished. Camped the whole time. Studio De Luz was awesome, still one of my favourite stadia.
We met two Austrian guys through a Japanese friend of ours who had tickets to every game of the tournament and were trying to go to every game possible, aside from those being played concurrently. They had applied to the ticket lottery using credit card numbers from all their family members and got so many tickets they couldn't possibly attend everything.
Turns out they have carried on doing this every two years since and it is their regular pilgrimage around the world to major football tournaments.
Fair play, if its what they love and they can afford it.
