Memory unless you are using some serious mathematical or graphical software and here's why

The battery life is affected by the processor, not the memory. You will get less out of a i7 than an i5 for example and you will only see any difference in processing if using it for serious video, graphical rendering or mathematical operations. Otherwise you will see basically no effect other than the lower battery life. Not sure how much it affects on a Pro but an Air with a Haswell processor can have 2 hours less battery life with an i7 vs i5.

And if you are concerned about longevity I don't believe it will make much difference.

I also have an old Air with Core 2 duo 2.3ghz from 2008, and it runs great still. Not as fast as my new Haswell i5 Air but it's fantastic for basic operations using a Browser or Office etc.
