There is a fan theory that all the white walkers are actually old Starks, and there was some pact between the Starks and the Walkers which has now been broken which is why they're coming south again. Probably bollocks, but I do believe Jon Snow is Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen's son, not Ned Stark's son at all...
