I had a similar experience with QPR in the 80s when they were a real football club

I didn't drive and couldn't afford the train to Norwich every weekend so I went to QPR with my girlfriend who was born in the area. The people where we sat knew I was primarily a Norwich supporter and were all wishing me well for the Milk Cup Final (though I didn't have a ticket).

The following year I did go to Wembley for their Milk Cup Final, in itself a unique experience walking up the Harrow Road with thousands of people, practically a home match. Unfortunately they lost.

Football can be very tribal but like you, I have found enjoyment in a "second team", though sadly there is little to admire about the modern QPR.
