Hello
Monkey World is a short train ride away in Wool, best place to take the kids if you're down there. Sandbanks or Bournemouth beach of the weather is nice, there's also an aquarium in Bournemouth.
Poole Quay (say, from Poole Pottery) to the train station is about a twenty minute walk. Maybe allow half an hour to be safe. You only need to walk down the high street and turn left off Falkland Square.
