I was gonna guess you might be staying at the mount royale round there. If you were I would have told my mate who works you were staying and to say hello :)

Driving into town from where you are staying leads you directly to micklegate, hence why I asked if you were on the train, cos that would lead you straight onto micklegate, hence why you get a lot revellers and messy nights out down there, as they are the first load of bars and clubs people see streaming into york

Easy advice is to venture beyond this point to enjoy yourself :)
