Alternatively, go out of town to an area called Schwabing.

Can get the U-bahn (U3 or U6) there from Marienplatz to Muenchener Freiheit. Lots of cafes and bars there worth outside seating, some of which open late. A more modern vibe than the tradition in town.

If the weather is nice, make sure you go to the Englischer Garten park and specifically either the Chinesischer Turm or Seehaus beer gardens. Both have loads of outdoor seating and serve food. The park itself is really nice too - a great walk from town up to the beer gardens.
