Last time NCFC beat a team in a cup tournament from a higher league..

following a previous thread earlier today...

if my memory serves me correct, apart from beating Bolton on pens in 1996 (with Paul Franklin in charge), we have never beaten a prem team since we were relegated from the Prem in 1995. Given that we were in the top flight between 1986 and 1995, we would be looking at before 1986!

I only started going to watch in 1984 so I'm afraid i don't know any fa or league cup victories before then, BUT I do know for a fact that we beat somebody in the Screensport Super Cup (quality name!) in the 1985/86 season, when we won the old Div 2.

This tournament was brought about for the top 4 teams (I think) after English teams were banned from Europe. I believe we played Everton, Man Utd and possibly Liverpool as well - I'm guessing we beat one of these, but please correct me if I am indeed wrong!!!
