I'm not sure that analogy really works
because 'needing snookers' we still have some influence and control - i.e. if we play a good enough snooker, they will probably foul. It's completely out of our hands.
It's more like we need our opponent to miss a couple of straight forward reds, or fail to clear up the colours from their spots.
