Player ratings

My ratings from last night....

Ruddy - 7, Made a couple of great saves in the first half to keep it at 0-0.

Whittaker - 7, Got forward well, relatively solid defensively.

Bassong - 6, Was caught out by Miller on occasion, although dealing with his physical threat and pace was a big challenge.

Martin - 4, Dreadful to be turned like he was for the first goal and was not convincing against either forward. Let Vaughan through for at least one of his chances in the first half.

Olsson - 7, Dealt with his pacey winger well. That seemed to be their favourite outlet but he didn't get much joy as Olsson could match him for speed. Not as much impact going forward as some matches.

Redmond - 7, Better than for a while. Linked the play well, attacked (and beat) his full-back inside and out. Should have taken a few shots when opportunity arose after cutting inside but seemed loathe to take the chance.

Howson - 6, Didn't contribute a lot. Had a great run to set up Hooper's miss at end of first half but I thought he should have taken it himself and scored.

Dorrans - 7, Always available and built the play well from the base of the midfield. A promising display, seems to be improving with each match.

Johnson - 6, Like Howson, didn't contribute much. Had a decent chance at the start of the second half but couldn't hit the target. His biggest contribution seemed to be trying to get flick-ons from Ruddy's long kicks.

Hooper - 5, Gave the ball away a lot in the first half, missed what looked like an easy chance to put us 1 up going in to HT.

Jerome - 6, Put a lot of effort in with little to show for it. Didn't hit the target with a couple of half chances that he had.

I would give Wesley an 8 for his substitute appearance - made us tick when he came on. He really is in excellent form at the moment and needs to start on Saturday.

Overall, a very frustrating night. Not enough quality in the final third and it was a match we really should have won comfortably.
