Boycott was kept on by the Beeb because they know he's innocent

Even those Jeremy Clarkson lovers wouldn't keep on a woman-beater if they thought he was guilty. The article I linked to sets out the circumstances perfectly well.

Sunderland, meanwhile, have endemic, deep-rooted problems. They've only had one conspicuously successful manager since 1973; they're run appallingly badly (one of the worst three run clubs in the Prem, along with QPR and Man Utd); their player recruitment has been shocking for as long as I can remember; their style of play has had no identity for as long as I can remember; and every single manager who goes there falls apart pretty quickly.

The problem's not those managers. It's the club. As I posted yesterday, what I'd query in Poyet isn't his ability (which also got them to their first final since 1992, as well as somehow keeping them up) - but his judgement in taking that hospital pass in the first place. That club is full of politics, backbiting and general unpleasantness.

I'm disappointed in him for failing to do his homework - at somewhere like West Ham, he'd be a hit - but nothing else.
