Thanks, I prefer Tower Bridge
What is people's problem with the Board, for crying out loud? Not a dig at you, but some people still seem to be convinced there was some grand Machiavellian conspiracy relating to Leon McKenzie's ankle injury! History seems to be repeating itself with regards to Dean Ashton - the slightest sign of injury or a bad day at the office and it's "Oh, it's cos he's off to Man City/Charlton/Wigan/West Ham/the moon next week, 100% of FACT". No wonder people think football fans are thick.
The Board backed their man when few others would, and some people will never forgive them for it until we win the FA Cup, the Premier League, the Champions League and even then they'll still bloody moan. And what do you know, 5 wins on the trot. That may not convince the likes of me or many others about Worthy's shortcomings, but in themselves the results are hard to argue with.
You really think the Board want us to fail? They want to see their years of hard work and a s**tload of money go down the toilet? And yes, for the moment we have the best classical centre-forward prospect in England. BUT; we are a medium-sized club in mid-table in Division 1, and we are around ?18m in debt. Why the f**k do people think we can afford to refuse a bigger club if they decide to throw silly money at us? Everyone has their price - that includes Greeno, that includes Huckerby, that includes Safri, that includes anyone and everyone down to and including the likes of Greg Thrale and Andrew Fisk in the Academy. It's the way of the footballing world, yet some people seem to see this as a subtle knife from the Board to line their own pockets.
Dean Ashton may well go to Manchester City. He may well go to Charlton. If he does he WILL go for one hell of a lot of money. Equally, he may stay here. His unavailability for a pointless FA Cup game is neither here nor there. Once again, for a big man with a long history of dodgy hamstrings and a bad back to get a quadrucep injury is hardly unlikely.
Would you prefer Worthy to play him today, tear a quad good and proper, and be out for 4-6 weeks? How about a groin, as he is unbalanced by trying to protect the original problem? No doubt you'd be willing to blame that on Worthy and an evil plot from the board as well.
