The story I read was from one of the NCFC academy coaches at the time so

not a Becks cock and bull version.

But yes the impression was that he was a very well mannered kid even then, and of course you would choose Man Utd over Norwich. But the time would have been 1992, at the start of the season when we finished 3rd. So it was probably impressive for us that we even managed to get that sort of talent level in for a trial.

And yes, had he signed for us I am under no illusions. We'd probably never have heard of him !
