I know for fact a few years back of a player that was going to be injected for a hip injury instead of having the op, and his wive stepped in and made sure he didn't have the injection, and when he was checked out the surgeon told him if he'd have played on through the pain, his career would have been over

Same thing I know did happen with another player, and he retired at 27
