We need exit controls. It's beyond belief we don't have them in this climate

I don't mean some 1984-style nightmare by that; I do mean that Britain, remarkably, has no means of clocking people in and out (which is among very many reasons why the immigration debate has been a sham for years).

I've been pretty disgusted by Turkey's continual inability (or for a long period, deliberate unwillingness) to stop militants flooding over its borders into Syria. It's finally tightened things up in that regard - and is rightly angry with the UK over this. Absolutely amazing and appalling that these girls got through with no-one checking or asking any questions.

What Steve says below is dead right though. They're just stupid, naive kids - who'll pay for this terrible mistake, one way or another, for the rest of their lives.
