Victory at Watford

Well - it was a victory for football anyway, some words I found about our 1-1 draw in March 2008, it was an evening match.

Started poorly, pinned back by the bombs, the snow, the wind and the Watford giants. Ellington should have bagged a brace by the time that big Dan Shittu powered in the inevitable headed goal from a corner after 10 minutes.

More bombs, blitz and air raid sirens still wailing as City repelled the enemy and gradually worked their way back into the game. It was ugly stuff. We were being bullied.

Second half saw a much improved Norwich performance. We kept it on the deck more and tried to pass it round, with moderate success. A few half chances came and went.

Watford relied more and more on the hoof, and Leigh Bromby?s long throw which he could fire into the box from anywhere in the Norwich half. That the focal point of Watford?s attack was one centre half, with the other centre half launching the ball to him typified their approach to football.

The home crowd didn?t help either, getting quieter and quieter, with their nervousness being transmitted from the stand to the pitch. Watford lost all momentum, seemingly settling for a one goal victory.

We scored after 81 minutes ? a sublime twenty yard strike from Jamie Cureton following a trademark run from Lee Croft. We hadn?t created a huge number of chances, and the one JC scored from wasn?t a great chance, just a fab finish.

Nothing much happened after that apart from Dion?s back flick from an innocuous looking cross which arrowed the ball towards the top corner, but Marshall pulled off the save of the match to keep the score at 1-1.

If what I saw tonight was the Boothroyd revolution, I?m glad he?s left Norwich. Ugly tactics, and ugly football. Ugly everything, especially those that disembarked the train at Carpenders Park.

It was laughable that Boothroyd, a man under real pressure for the first time in his career, had the temerity to complain about our strong-arm tactics. We were being bullied and fought back with the better football.
