Massively bigger gates and the great transformation of the English game post-Hillsborough are all part of it. English football still attracts tons of terrible owners; but the clubs are so well-supported that if the worst happens, they're usually able to find a way out of it.

Italy has a much more fundamental problem in any case. As a country, it is in terminal decline. Net birth rates are now in negative territory, its economy is a joke (the government actually wants to include black market prostitution and drugs sales in its GDP!), the unions and vested interests block all attempts at reform, corruption is rampant. It's f**ked: I see no way back for Serie A, and I don't think there's any way back for Italy either.
