I don't like all the commercial overload

but don't see there's anything wrong with a dedicated day to be a bit silly and effusive and not to say it can't happen the rest of the year too!

To continue on this sentimental style, my father wrote to my mother from India asking to marry her (wartime) enclosing the ring and it arrived, coincidentally, on Valentine's Day. So I guess it always just had a nice appeal to me.

(And you can get some great flower bargains at Waitrose on the 15th).
