Because it would supercede germany's ability to pay.
As in the case of any indebted nation in default, an agreement should be brokered under which it pays a proportion.
Still unfair for its creditors and perhaps modern day germany but ffs, Greece and possibly others look very much like they're falling into extremism and that's bad for everybody
