In my gran's case, she weighed 20kg when she was liberated, and had to wear a f**king SS uniform on the train back to Hungary - because her liberators had no other clothes they could give her.

When she arrived back in her village, her home had been taken over by a Russian family - she was eternally grateful when he allowed her, her Mum and her sister one solitary room in THEIR HOUSE - and when she went outside, a neighbour looked at her: all skin, bone, nothing left of her pretty much, and said:

"Did you finally learn to work, then?"
