he only played well when:

a) we were on TV, or
b) the Scotland manager was in the crowd

And he didn't score very many goals, just an abnormal number of spectacular ones that everyone remembers. But what you want from your strikers is quantity not quality - a great strike doesn't count for any more than a scrappy one.
