I don't think I've ever been at a conference where the gist of what was said wasn't reasonably obvious from the hand outs.

Re-appear at lunch if there's free grub and/or you need to be seen networking.

Fake a Very Important Phonecall if needs be. "The bloke in Sector 7-G has done WHAT? I'm on my way!"
