...albeit in another sport, that's exactly it. The physio tells you who can and who can't and you have to trust him (quite rightly).

Cracked / bruised ribs are one of those injuries which won't get any worse or heal any slower if you play with them. It's all down to whether or not you can handle the pain. If you can, then why not ? If you can't, better not trying.
