It was massively obvious last season that

Hooper and Wes were on the same wavelength. The few times they played in the same team together they linked up really well. Hooper takes up good positions and makes clever runs and Wes is able to pick him out.

Unfortunately Hughton responded to this growing understanding by dropping Hooper and not playing Wes most of the time.
