Is the problem defending or the defence?

One of the most glaring things I have noticed under Adams is that we are actually appear to be very rigid, the better teams these days always defend as one big unit instead of leaving it just to the defenders. It is strange because Adams appears not to have been able to transfer any of his tactics from the youth team to the first team. Not once have we played with his youth team formation for example even though we have the perfect players for it.

We stand off players time and time again. If you watch many of the goals we have conceded, the opposition are allowed to run with the ball a long way without ever having to skip a challenge or fight off pressure on the ball.

And finally, a point i make time and time again, unless you have a very solid back line then the best form of defence is possession, we really should look at keeping the ball better especially when we have a lead to protect. Make the opposition work a lot harder to get it back, thought we did this well versus Bolton for example but it hasn't been there the last 3 games.
