if ashton is the difference between promotion and floundering in the fizzy

then surely we will only want to sell him once the offered price exceeds the amount we stand to make by winning the playoffs.

Of course, if we fail to go up even with him on board then we will kick ourselves, but his price can only go up between now and the end of the season.

The only person who might stop ashton staying is ashton himself - if the board fail to convince him to stay a few more months then we should blame them not for not being ambitious enough, but for not having the negotiational skills to get him to stay.
