sounds like fat finger syndrome
i have the same problem. First thing to remember is to stick your wrist as far forward as possible - that way you're playing with your finger tips and not the pads, which are less precise. This hurts (both your wrist and fingertips) at first, but you get used to it. As your fingertips toughen up you'll find that you can get a better sound as they'll 'fit' the strings better.
Apart from that, there's not a lot you can do, just keep practising. And remember that if you don't get a perfect sound then it's not really that important - just crank up the reverb and play louder.
