Against 'lesser' teams perhaps we can afford to leave the holes them 2 leave when they normally play together.

However, against so called 'morer' teams, Gerrard should play on the left of a diamond with Lamps at the head of a diamond formation. Therefore, England would need to employ a defensive midfielder. Which begs the question: Who?
